What is Employer Grouping & How Does it Affect My Premiums?

Grouping is where related businesses in NSW must group their workers’ compensation insurance should their combined wages be over $750,000.

Is this you?

If so, best to email premium.services@icare.nsw.gov.au as there are some exceptions to the rule that are worth investigating.

This is important to note as different groups throughout your business may incur a different industry classification rate.  As your industry classification rate is multiplied by your wages, it can significantly impact your overall premium.

For a loose and oversimplified example, if half of your business was a saw-mill and the other half the sales team, one would have a higher risk rating than the other.  By splitting the two, you may pay less in premium for the sales side of the business (considering many other factors).
